This is such a pretty flower: small and compact, with a centre of yellow anthers surrounded by a frill of creamy-apricot petals etched with veins of pink and an extra blush of intense rosiness at the edges. Geum ‘Cosmopolitan’ is a new variety of Avens which flowers from late spring into summer, loved by bees and other insects for its sweet nectar. With its neat clumps of semi-evergreen leaves, it works well at the front of border. Height: 60cm (24″). Spread: 45cm (18″).

Grow Geums in a sunny or shaded position on any well drained soil.
Water regularly until fully established. Dead-head faded geum flowers regularly to encourage more blooms to be produced. Remove old foliage in autumn. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant in spring. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of Geum to maintain their vigour.
